As such, the randomly spawning mafia members make certain areas on the first island almost inaccessible once you get past a certain point in the story, and the solution to revisiting these areas is to wait until you are given a bulletproof Patriot at the end of a much later mission, or intentionally fail a race and try to force a bulletproof AI-piloted Cheetah into your garage. Vehicle health is extremely low in GTA III, and two shotgun blasts will instantly blow up your vehicle. Some of the missions are frustrating and will likely require multiple attempts, and there are some obvious examples of bad game design. The shooting is terrible by modern standards, but manageable in most cases.
The satire in particular is timeless, and some of the talk radio segments are laughably accurate about US culture some 16 years later. I am working my way through the series again, and I finished GTA III a few weeks ago and started Vice City last weekend.įor GTA III, the driving, environments, voice acting, and satire have aged surprisingly well.
